30.7.2025

New rules for registration checks apply from 1 July 2025

Thanks to the amendment to Act No. 56/2001 Coll., the fixed period of 1 year from the date of the EC is no longer valid. Instead, it is newly assessed whether the vehicle is subject to regular technical inspection and within what period it is.

Until 30. 6. 2025, the EC was valid for only 1 year – this is no longer the case.

- The EC is now valid for the same period as the MOT – for a regular passenger car (cat. M1) it is valid for 4 years from the first registration, then every 2 years.
- If the vehicle has a valid MOT, a separate EC is not required.
- Everything is calculated as of the date of application (e.g. change of owner).

What does this mean?
- Less administration.
- Faster registration and export of the vehicle.
- Saving time and costs.
